Why This Day Is Special?

The International Day of Cooperatives celebrates the unique way cooperatives help communities work together for shared success. It highlights how cooperation builds strong businesses, empowers people, and supports fair and inclusive development.

History Behind the Day

In 1995, the United Nations officially proclaimed the first Saturday of July as the International Day of Cooperatives. This marked the  100th anniversary of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), one of the oldest global organizations supporting cooperatives. The day brings attention to the values of mutual support, democracy, and equality in cooperative work.
