History Behind the Day
Coral Triangle Day was established in 2012 by the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF). It is celebrated by the six member countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste

Coral Triangle Day Celebration at Santhi School
Today, Santhi School is enthusiastically observing Coral Triangle Day to raise awareness about the priceless marine biodiversity found in the Coral Triangle region. The students of Santhi School are taking part in creative educational activities such as coral reef model making, poster designing, and group discussions led by teachers about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems. The principal of Santhi School encourages students to learn about the Coral Triangle, known as the “Amazon of the Seas,” and the need to protect coral reefs from pollution, climate change, and overfishing. The classrooms and activity halls are beautifully decorated with ocean-themed crafts and informative displays prepared by the students.
Santhi School is also hosting an interactive quiz and a picture story session where students explore the vibrant life within coral reefs and ways to support sustainable sea practices. Teachers guide students in pledging to protect oceans by reducing plastic use and spreading awareness in their communities. The observance of Coral Triangle Day at Santhi School not only nurtures environmental responsibility but also fosters unity, creativity, and global consciousness among students.
